A Successful Partnership: the Dingley Project

Parenting Matters has been able to secure another grant from www.greenham-common-trust.co.uk to continue the good work with the Dingley Family and Play Therapy Group based in Wokingham and Newbury. www.dingleyplaytherapy.org.uk These centres offer children from birth to 5 years, with development and special needs, an opportunity to meet and socialise with one another and their siblings.

Parenting Matters support the parents and carers of these children by running on site workshops to address common challenges of parenting. The workshops allow the parents to share and support each other as their children are cared for by the team at Dingley. The subjects covered are often suggested by the parents and have covered areas including sleep challenges, discipline, play and puppets. 2009

Our  workshops for the Newbury Centre will be held at

The Picnic Enclosure, Newbury Racecourse, Newbury, RG14 7NZ – 01635 552458, please call for details.

Children and parents explore the world of feelings through puppetry

A youngster gets to grips with some fun-packed role play at a puppet show hosted by the Dingley
Family and Specialist Early Years Centre held recently at Newbury Racecourse Ref: 05-07096

A NEWBURY-based group,
which supports children with
special needs and their parents,
had a fun filled day at a
workshop held at Newbury
Racecourse recently.
The role-play workshop was
hosted by the Dingley Family
and Specialist Early Years
Centre and involved a colourful
puppet show, staged by Jo
Bryant, of Pottytree Puppets,
which used puppets to explore
aspects of behaviour.
A spokeswoman for workshop
organisers, Parenting Matters,
Katharina Weber, said that children,
parents and staff participated
enthusiastically in the
show.
Each child took on a role in the
story about a princess in trouble
with a dragon, before making
their own puppet to take home.
"Parents discovered how corn-

Ms Weber.
"One parent said how easy the
puppet making was and that she
wouldn't usually try this type of
activity because it always looked
so difficult. She was pleased
with how much her daughter
could do with little help."
Wokingham-based charity
Parenting Matters supports children's
parents and carers by
running workshops to address
common challenges of parenting,
such as sleep issues, discipline
and play, with topics often
suggested by the parents.
The workshop was run thanks to
the continued sponsorship of
the Greenham Common Trust.
Three more workshops are
scheduled in coming months.
The free of charge sessions will
be held from 10am to 11.30am on
Thursday, May 7, Thursday, June
18, and Thursday, July 9, at the
Dingley Family and Specialist
Early Years Centre, which meets
in a building in the picnic area
at Newbury Racecourse.
The centre offers children from
birth to aged five with developmental
needs an opportunity to
meet and socialise.
